8:30-9:00: Registration and welcome
9:00 –9:10: Introductions, discussion of goals, and Ice breaker
Introduction of the presenters informing the group of the ice breaker (sharing
something about yourself that you normally do not share). Modeling the ice
breaker for the group. Group introductions, icebreaker, and personal goals
for attending the workshop.

9:10-10:30: Defining the role of gangs in today’s society.
What type of programs address the gang issue in your community?
What impedes the success of programs that work with gang members?
Gang prevention programs vs. treatment of clients once in the system?
Participants will gain an understanding of the impact that gangs have in today’
s society.
Participants will explore the thought patterns that gang members have towards
society, school systems, and in the treatment process.
Understanding the role of alcohol/drug use has in a gang culture.
10:30 – 10:45: Break
11:00 - 12:15: History of gangs and the current trends being seen in our
society:
Participants will explore current research and data surrounding gangs.
Participants will explore methods of identifying different gangs.
Participants will gain insight into gang terms, and signs.
12:15-01:15: Lunch
01:15-2:45: Who Benefits from gangs?
Participant will gain an understanding the role of gangs in American society.
2:45-3:00: break
3:00-4:30: “Treatment consideration, and approaches”.
Discuss frustrations, challenges of working with gang members, and ways to
help this social change movement improve for the better.
Explore the road blocks to accountability and engage in a discussion as to
what we as providers can do to improve the services available.
Discuss collaborations with the Safe Houses (shelters) and legal systems to
improve services.
