normally do not share). Modeling the ice breaker for the group. Group introductions, icebreaker, and personal
goals for attending the workshop. Clinical goals of the workshop from the presenters.
9:10-10:30: Defining the “Mandated Client” (presentation to services).
What are the goals of the referral source?
What are the goals of the individual who is requesting services?
What are the goals of Service Provider?
Treatment readiness or to get through the “Punishment”

11:00 - 12:15: Historical approaches to working with “resistant” clients:
Are they “resistant” or differently motivated. What research is available that has explored the differences between
“resistant” and “treatment ready” service recipients?

01:15-2:45: Benefits of mandated treatment/Deficits:
We take a look at what the specific needs are therapeutically for the individual who has been mandated to receive
services. Offering programs specific to the individuals needs. Recognizing that for example: a client referred to a
Batterers group might also be an Alcoholic or a Sex Offender, how do we meet the needs of this individual that will
also promote public safety?
